Get the Most Mileage

How to get the most Mileage out of your Tank of Gas

Purchasing gas is one of those things that goes right along with car ownership. It’s an expected expense, and one that most of us often wish was much cheaper. While we may not be able to do much about the price of gas at the pump, there’s actually quite a bit we can do to change how often we need to make that trip to the station to fill up.

Here are a few tips that well help you get the most mileage out of your tank of gas:

Drive Steadily

Driving aggressively (frequently speeding up, braking) actually burns more gas. Observing the speed limit and driving at a steady pace will help you get better gas mileage both on the highway and around town. When possible, using cruise control is also a great way to maintain steady speed.

Keep Up On Vehicle Maintenance

Staying up to date on tune ups can help improve your gas mileage tremendously. Things like dirty air filters and poor spark plugs reduce gas mileage as well as the quality your car is running at.

Beware Of Low Tire Pressure

Low tire pressure can be extremely dangerous. It can also cause you to use much more gas than necessary. Keeping your tires balanced and properly aligned is safer, and gives you better MPG.

Time Your Fill Ups

Did you know that the time of day you purchase your gas affects how much you get? During the cooler times of day, gas is denser. This means that you will get a higher volume of gas which equates to more gas for your money.

 Keep Your Gas Cap Tight

Many people aren’t aware that gas vaporizes. If you don’t properly tighten your gas cap each time you replace it, chances are you are losing some of your gas right into thin air… literally!

Do you have any tips to add, to make that gas tank stretch?
