The 2018 Ford Explorer received a minor change to the exterior design on the front and rear and added a 4G LTE hotspot for up to ten devices. There are five trim levels: the Base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. In 2018 the optional features have been made more readily available by grouping them into a single options package. This package includes most of the driver assistance features including, but not limited to: adaptive cruise control, automatic wipers and high beams, and rear cross-traffic alert.

What features are available in the 2018 Explorer?

Some of the standard features for the 2018 Ford Explorer are automatic headlamps, four 12-volt powerpoints, hill start assist, remote keyless entry system, a second and third row of fold-flat seating, trailer sway control, and SYNC with 4.2-inch color LCD screen and media hub. Additional packages are available as well. These packages are Class II Trailer Tow Prep package, Class III Trailer Tow package, Cold Weather package, Driver-Connect package, Safe and Smart package, XLT Sport Appearance package, and the XLT Technology Feature bundle. If you're looking for the most comfortable model to add these packages to go with the Limited which adds heated and ventilated front seats and leather upholstery, but if you're looking for the most powerful model stick with the Sport. The Sport model comes with the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, firmer suspension, and a towing package.

How do the engine options vary?

The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque is also available in both front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. On the Sport and Platinum trims there is also an option for a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. All models come with a 6-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters. In the all-wheel drive with the Terrain Management System, the 2018 Ford Explorer makes for a great off-road vehicle. The Terrain Management System allows you to change between modes of Normal, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Grass/Gravel/Snow. This three-row crossover can even go from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and come to a complete stop from that speed in 108 feet.

What options are available for safety features on the 2018 Ford Explorer?

Standard features for safety and security include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control, anti-lock brake system, the four-wheel disc with illuminated entry system, lower anchors and tether anchors for children, a rearview camera with a washer to keep it clean, and more. A tire pressure monitoring system and spare tire are included as well to help keep you going. Multiple additional features are available as well. Some of the additional features are airbags in the second-row console, enhances active park assist, and hill descent control. Plus the new Safe and Smart package can be added for a multitude of extra features.
