Tire Maintenance

The only thing making contact between you and the road that you’re driving on are your tires. Thus it is very important to protect the tires which also make your vehicle safe. Sometimes it can be quite expensive to maintain them but there are ways to protect your tire investment. Improving ones driving habits is most important.

Fast turns, fast starts and fast stops all cause more tire wear, as does speeding, which heats the rubber and causes faster breakdown. And of course, the obvious: avoid obstacles like curbs, potholes, logs and rocks. Taking proper care of your tires will not only ensure they’re in roadworthy condition, it will also help them to last longer. There are a few things you can do to care for your tires:

Rotation: Regularly rotate your tires, this will help ensure that they wear in a uniform fashion. Front wheel drive cars will wear the front tires out faster and rear wheel drive cars will wear the rear tires out faster, so rotating according to the manufacturer’s recommendations will help even out the wear of front and rear tiress accordingly.

Rotate and balance tires every other oil change: Experts recommend that you rotate and balance your tires every other oil change (7,000 – 10,000 miles). Most tire shops offer this service free-of-charge if the tires were purchased from them. Rotating your tires increases their lifespan because the front tires wear faster than the rear.

Check Air Pressure on a Regular Basis: Every once a month it is important to check the air pressure. Uneven tire pressure between tires makes them wear unevenly which is why a regular pressure control is essential.

Valves: The valves and valve caps may seem like trivial components but replacing the rubber items with higher quality valves when you purchase new tires can actually give you a noticeable impact.

Cleaning: Whenever you are washing your car, never neglect the tires. The soap and water helps you to remove chemicals and particles that stick to the surface over time causing deterioration.

Tire Protectant: To prevent the ravages of ultraviolet light or ozone damage in the summer and harsh weather conditions in the winter, use tire protectant products.
